lomo and all that

We have been incredibly busy as of late, which is why I haven't written (though I hope you saw Shelley's video-she's really quite proud). We moved into our new apartment last Friday and spent the day buying plants for our patio and recleaning every inch of the place (I am slightly anal in this respect, as my former college roommates know). It is huge compared to our previous places. We actually have an upstairs and an absolutely lovely patio with a parrilla (badass argentine grill). My first box of organic fruits and vegetables also arrived and they were positively gorgeous. We cooked a "pollo de granja" (free range chicken) with all sorts of vegetables on Friday, which was made slightly more difficult by the fact that we have a gas oven with a completely inaccurate temperature reading, which is also in Celsius. Though there were some moments of smoke billowing out of our house (great for meeting neighbors), it was delicious.

On Saturday Papá arrived! He came back down because he has been commissioned to do a sculpture in San Martín de los Andes and he will also have a photography exhibition there mid-February. Before heading down, he spent a few days here in Buenos Aires and we were able to meet all of his childhood friends and see his old neighborhood. He lived right down the street from where "The House of the Spirits" was filmed. We spent the weekend at his friend Jorge's house, where all the Argentine men converged for a huge asado on Sunday. It was literally like a huge group of 12 year old boys hanging out.

This is an old picture of my Dad and his crew when they went camping as 15 year olds (first from the left). He and Jorge are planning to climb the Lanin volcano again this month.
